Today was my mom's birthday (Happy Birthday!) and Beth's bridal shower (another one). Tonight, my grandma came over for dinner, we had an ice cream cake from Coldstone (yum!) and went to see the new Indiana Jones. What made the day less fun was that Doug got me sick. Boo. But, here are my pictures from the day!

Day 12- Birthdays and Bridal Showers

Day 11- Kemmis Family fun
Today Doug and I went hiking with my parents and their hiking club. I totally wussed out and cut the "short" hike short. It was muddy and there were bugs and poison ivy. Instead, I sat with the older people (who also cut it short) and chatted with my dad's former boss.
Afterwards, we ate at a bar in Andalusia, IL. It was in the middle of nowhere (seriously, no cell phone reception) but had decent food and cheap beer.
On the way home, we stopped to buy my mom, the former hula hoop champion, a hula hoop. She and an 8 year old were testing them at Wal-Mart. If only I could have gotten my camera out of my purse.... But I do have an entertaining video from our backyard.

Day 10 -Is that a dog?
On our way to Geneseo, we got stuck in traffic (accident). We were behind a pickup truck for a considerable amount of time... I was traumatized when I noticed a dog in the back. Then I noticed it wasn't moving. OMG. Was it dead? Did they taxidermy it? After lots of staring (and picture taking) we decided it was a stuffed animal.

Day 8 - You know you have too much yarn when...
Some people say that you know you have a problem when your yarn stash is the focal point of your room. I am worried mine is getting to be a problem. It is more of a "craft stash" and has become a repository for crafty things that don't have a place. It needs to be organized. And to think... I got the bins so my yarn could be organized. And for awhile, it was. Then I used most my cute "yarn ball winder" wound yarn... and have a tangled mess that should be wound...But I know I don't have as much as Liz... so it's ok :) For now.

Day 7-Scrabble
Doug is learning how to play Scrabble. He gave me a run for my money tonight. 285-262. I still won :) He is still giving me the finger. I'm not sure how it hasn't cramped yet. Very mature. He would like to add that jabs/quasi were his words (and worth 59 points in one go).

Day 6 -For the birds
Here's a barn swallow (we think). This evening we walked to Meijer to buy some groceries. On our way home, we heard a little bird singing it's heart out. Here he is!

Day 5- Bird Watching
We have a woodpecker that frequents our bird feeder. Based on field biology in college, I think it's a downy woodpecker, as they do live in Northern Indiana. However, it could be a hairy woodpecker - I'm not sure how to tell them apart! If I'm lucky, I'll catch him from the front one day (yes, it is a him. He has a red spot on his head). Last year I got a great picture of a red bellied woodpecker (HUGE) on the feeder. He was almost bigger than the feeder!
Beth's Bridal Shower
Sheesh was yesterday busy! I woke up early, got ready, packed, drove to work to split my cells, went to the bank, filled up my gas tank (ugh), and headed to Chicago.Because of the beautiful weather, the lake shore and city was crawling with people out and about. We were 30 minutes late because of traffic! At least I was with Beth - they couldn't start the party without her!
That evening, Beth and I walked up the street for dinner. We decided on a new sushi restaurant. The food was great (perhaps I should have taken a picture of it before we devoured it) and the drinks were better! I think they added coconut milk to the cosmos... mmmm. The service, on the other hand, was pretty terrible. We're not sure who our waitress really was, never got our ginger salad, had to ask for our drinks twice - but on the plus side, we got a seaweed salad for free!
Day 4- Irony
I was in Chicago yesterday for Beth's bridal shower. I had my camera in hand. However, I didn't have internet access with my computer (I even tried stealing from the hospital next door...)We pulled up a residential street taking her friend home, the cars were lined with All State ads. I hope this one had insurance.
